Evan Karter took a slow breath as he watched his home twon coming into view. After sitting on a hot, sticky bus from New York City to Jamestown, Virginia, then a taxi ride from there to Cold Creek it was a blessing and a curse.
His grip on the hand of the girl next to him tightened slightly and he gave Ann Hamilton, soon-to-be Ann Karter, a soft smile. Eleven months they'd ben together after metting in, oddly enough, Toys-R-Us in Time Square. He'd been looking for dog toys for a few of the puppys at the veterinary clinic he was volenteerign at while he was in NYC for his DVM. She'd been looking for a squeaky toy for a schnouser she was puppy-sitting. That was how it started.
His soft brown eyes strayed to her flat stomach and he sighed a little. Four weeks along, they'd just found out less than a week ago. He'd proposed to her while she was at work, working the cash register at a small fashion botique.
It was Ann's idea that they come to his hometown so she could meet everyone. Ho, boy. She'd known about his being Lycan when she'd caught him Changing in a sucluded part of the park. He just really wondered how she was going to take an entire town of Lycans and Werewolves...
"We're here." Evan dug around in his pocket for his wallet to pay the taxi driver. "You ready, Annie?"

"I've been ready." Ann smiled reassuringly, squeezing his hand slightly. "really, this isn't anything to worry about, Evan..." Boy, did she feel a lot less confidant than she felt. She'd loved Evan before she found out about his being Lycan, and it was still a subject she didn't bring up much. And now a town full of them? What if his friends didn't like her? What if.....? What if, what if, she shook herself mentally.
Things would be just fine

Evan smiled and paid the driver, slightly suprised it was less expensive than he'd thought it'd be. He climbed out of the car and ran around to the other door, opening it for Ann, smiling sincerly. "Care for a hand, madame?"

"Sounds lovely." Ann smiled, jerking out of her thoughts as her helped her out of the cab.
"It's about time you showed up!" A low, smiling female voice floated out from behind the two. "I was starting to think I had the day wrong..."

Evan quickly helped his finace out then turned around, grinning. "Nope, right day." He grinned and hugged the young woman behind him. "How're you doing? How's Nicky?"

"Ooooh, you'd better not let him hear you call him that!" The woman grinned, looking up at him. She was short; about 5 foot even, with long, straight blond hair, about a hundred pounds, not looking much older than her 16 year old son, who was sulking on the other side of the park, a few other like-aged teens around him, even though she was in her 30's. she turned to Ann, smiling.
"And you must be the lucky wman, Ann. I'm barbie. Or, barb, barbra, barb-wire, any of those." she laughed, shaking the dumbfounded woman's hand
Ann blinked once Barbie had released her, shooting a slightly confused glance at Evan. This wasn't what she'd expected, not at all.

Evan smiled reassuringly to Ann. "Barb, this is Annie, the girl I told you about." He gave Nick a breif wave, despite knowing he'd be ignored. He'd pretty much grown up with the kid, being only five years older.

"Oh..." The confusion cleared out of Ann's eyes as she smiled at barbie.
"You been talking about me again, Ev?" Barbara grinned. "I hope you havn't been saying anything bad this time!" she laughed
Nick simply nodded at the man, too 'busy' to go over and say hi at the moment.

Evan shrugged helplessly. "And just why would I do that, huh?"

"Because you're rotten like that." Barbie stuck her tongue out, seeming to be younger than him, rather than older. Whether it was her looks, her personality, or just her energy, she'd always seemed younger than the people around her, until she got serious

Evan laughed and hugged the short woman again. "Yeah, I am. But you're worse." He ruffled her hair. "So, what's been new in old Cold Creek?"

"Mmmh, there's a new guy here." Barbie grinned impishly. "Well, not here right now, he left on a work trip, but...." she shrugged helplessly. "I lika dis one." she laughed. She had been through two marriages already, Nick being from her frist one.

Evan smiled. "Oh? Is he nice?" He looked around. "Ol' Jiovanni still around? Do I even have to ask?"

"He's an absolute DOLL.' Barbie gushed, grinning from ear to ear.
"And of course, you should know better than to think we'll ever be rid of'im." she laughed softly. "I just got back to town yesterday, so I havn't had a chance to visit yet. Maybe you and your lovely lady would accompany me?"

Evan nodded faintly then looked over to Ann. "You wanna meet the town overlord?" He joked, slipping an arm around her waist.

"Hm?" Ann jumped slightly, startled out of her humming. She hadn't wanted to interrupt or listen in on her fiance and his friend, and had quickly spiralled off into her own little world

Will slowed the car as they passed the park, an old habit. He glanced sideways at his wife as she watched out the window, oblivious to the attention. They had just gotten back from the doctor for an ultrasound; Sarah and the baby were both healthy. His eyes flicked back and forth from her stomach to the road, grinning proudly.
“Evan?” Will slowed the car as he neared the group. Sarah snapped out of her reverie and rose and eyebrow at him.
“We can’t name him Evan, it’d be too confusing.” She sighed and placed a slender hand over her stomach. Will grinned, rolling down his window.
“No, not the baby.” He laughed, sticking his head out the window and he parked the car.
“Hey Evan!” He called as he unhooked his seatbelt. “When’d you get back in town?” He got out of the car and trotted over to the passenger side, opening the door.
“C’mon, let’s go say ‘hi’.” He helped Sarah out and walked towards their friends.

Evan grinned as he saw Sarah and Will coming towards them. "Will!" He patted his friends shoulder when he got near enough. "How've you been?! I just got back not five minutes ago."
He looked to Ann. "Annie, this is Will Lupus and his wife Sarah. They're two of my best friends here in town. will, Sarah, this is Ann Hamilton...My fiance." A hint of pride slipped into his grin.

"A pleasure." Ann smiled slightly, nodding at the two. She was getting more used to meeting people, starting to remember things Evan had told her about them.
"What, Will, no hi for me?" Barbie asked loudly, grinning

“Been good,” Will grinned back. “We were just at the doctor.” He glanced back at Evan and wiggled his eyebrows.
“Fiancé? Congratulations.” He extended his hand to Ann. “Nice to meet you.” Sarah smiled at her.
“Pleasure to meet you too, Ann.” She smiled, shaking her hand.
“Of course you get a hi.” Will smirked at Barb. “Hi.”
