“Don’t be an ass, ass.” Cass sighed, letting Xander help her out of the car.

Rose's eye widened when she saw her friend. "Evie? Evie!" She hurried over and hugged her best she could with her stomach in the way. "How are you?!"

"Grand, now that I'm back from my trip." Eva grinned slightly. "Did I hear something about cookies while I was listening in?"

“Damn, and I remember when people called me crazy,” Abel muttered, waving to Eva. He liked her, probably one of the few that wasn’t ‘wolf that he did like. She had a decent head on her shoulders.
Cain held in his laughter, “Trust me Eva, that isn’t even the half of the story. You should have to sleep next to my lovely lady when she’s got morning sickness. Now that sucks.”
Abel shook his head, muttering something about Cain sharing too much information. “Cookies are down the steps and to your right, Evlyn.”
Cain raked a hand through his hair, starting back toward the kitchen. “So, how was your trip? Where’d you go again?”

"Thanks, Abel." Eva grinned slightly. "My mum says hi, by the way."
"Trip was fine, Cainy. And it was the publicity tour in Japan, I told you." Already a well known translator, Eva had started wirting her own book, a semi-fiction story about girl who lived around werewolves.

“How’s Barb?” Abel had wondered back into the room, this time with what appeared to be hot peppers on a plate.
“Oh yeah, I remember now,” Cain said, “Well, glad you had fun.”

Rose gave Cain a breif look then grinned at Eva. "Ooh, I've just missed you so much! How was Japan?"
"Abel, why do you have hot peppers?"

“Because I like them,” Abel replied, looking at Rose as he shoved another pepper into his mouth. “Not that it is any of your business, did I ask you why you moved in here or why you’re bigger then a house or why you eat ice cream at one in the morning?” It was easy to see where Cain got his knack for being a smartass.
“Pop. Shut it,” Cain said, shaking his head as he glared at his father.

"Well, Abel, when a man and a woman love each other very much, sometimes things happen, and the stork comes, and it causes women to eat an excess of sweets." Eva smirked- Barb's sarcasm was apparantly genetic. "Not that I'd know from experiance."
"Japan's so crowded." Eva wrinkled her nose. "And they're short! I mean, I'm sort, but I'm used to being short!"

Abel was grumbling, “You kids are too public about things. Should have had separate rooms like my parents did in the 1940s. It’d snip that “things happen” right in the bud. No more fat Rose, no more spending God-awful amounts of money on junk food that the rest of us don’t get time to eat before she does.” Abel was a complainer in his old age.
“Damn, if you were average then I’d be like…. that giant on the vegetable packages.” Cain added, grinning. “Hell, I got weird looks in London a couple months back. France is gonna be a kicker next week.”

"Well, you could always move in with my mom." eva grinned. "she'd probably share her snacks."

"No thank you, I'd rather take my chances with my stupid son and his somewhat less stupid wife," Abel replied, shoving another light yellow papper into his mouth with a smile. "Besides, somehow I don't think Barb would welcome me with open arms."

Eva shrugged slightly. "You never know." she grinned at him. "She gets lonely in that house."

He grinned back. "I'm sure she does. Trust me, having me to torment won't help her."

"Well...at least he said 'somewhat less stupid' this time." Rose shrugged. since moving into the mansion she'd gotten used to crabby old Abel. She just made sure to be extra nice to him. She knew how it annoyed him.
"Speaking of sweets, I'm gonna get a cookie. Anyone else want one?"

Abel almost felt bad for being so mean to everyone; Rose was always pleasant to him. Never mean to him the way he was too her. And he supposed he had to be some what pleased that Cain had chosen her to marry rather than some little tramp he meant in college.
“Cookies can improve a mood,” Abel grumbled, not allowing himself to sink into her trap of asking him to get him some too.
“You know, we should all just chill for a bit,” Cain pointed back through the house, starting in the direction in which he’d been pointing. “C’mon. Let’s sit down, let Rose take a load off. Dad, I’ll get the damn cookies. I could go for some cookies too.”

"You're not family?" Cain said, acting shocked to have just learned that little bit of info. "Ah, you're close enough. C'mon, chill with us a little bit."
"Tell 'er Rose."

Rose nodded. "Course you are, Evie." She grinned. "Lately, we've actually been thinking about adopting you." She paused when she realized the lameness of her joke. "Huh. I think pregnancy has zapped my sense of humor."

"Nope, ust made you realize what I've known all along, Rosie." Eva rolled her eyes, grinning. "Not funny."
