"It's snowing! Daddy, it's snowing! C'mon, let's go play! Let's play in the snow!" 5-year-old Rose squealed as she tugged on her father's pant leg.
Evan laughed and ruffled his young daughter's hair. "Aw, you sure do love snow, doncha, Rosie?" She nodded eagerly, grabbing her puffy plum-clored snow jacket off the couch.
"Yup!" She giggled. Evan stood up from his chair and grabbed his brown leather jacket off the coat rack, pulling a pair of sky blue mittens and his own black leather gloves.
He knelt down to zip up her jacket and put her mittens on her. He smiled and ruffled her long blond hair again. "Hey, you wanna invite Cain over? I'm sure he'd love to come over for some hot chocolate later." He stood up and opened the front door.
"Okay!" Rose squealed and ran outside into the white flurries. Evan followed her, laughing as she hopped aroudn the snow drifts like a hyperactive puppy.
"My little Snowball..."
"-snowballs."
"Huh?" Rose turned to look at Randy. He was sitting across from her at her kitchen table, sipping a mug of hot chocolate. Cat was sitting to his left, Jack was to his right. Cain and Eva were on either side of Rose herself.
"I said, we should go outside and throw some snowballs around." Randy grinned. "Sound good to anyone else?"
"Yeah...sure..."

"You guys do that." Eva smiled, shivering. Even being inside, with her warmest jacket on, she was freezing, and she had no intention of going outside to get even colder. Christmas had never been big with her, she bought things for everyone she knew, got nothing back. She stayed at home all day, mostly, unless her mother had pulled one of her famous 'I couldn't think of anything so I'll take you shopping later' things. And then, of course, there was the damned cold.
"Go have fun, I'll start on making lunch." she tried to smile brightly at her friends.

"Mmhmm...have fun with that." Rose muttered distantly, staring out the window at the falling snow.
"Rosie, are you feeling okay?" Randy reached across the table and shook her lightly.
"Hm? Oh, yeah..." She forced a smile. "I'm great, Rand."

“Snowball fight!” Cain got way too excited over snow. He loved winter in Cold Creek, it snowed a lot. They got out of school a lot. He was pulling on his jacket before he realized the rest of the crew hadn’t started heaping on clothes. “Umm...Rosie, you okay?” He hated to see her like that. He knew she was having a hard time with posing her dad, her first Christmas without him. He’d make it all better, they’d have the best in the snow imaginable and she’d see that he was really trying to help.

Rose smiled again. "I told you, I'm fine." She stood up, abandoning her hot chocolate on the table. "Let's go." She grabbed her favorite purple jacket, similar to the one she'd had as a kid only bigger and not quite as puffy.
Randy hopped out of his chair, still wearing his blakc leather jacket and pulled his thick wool gloves out of his pocket. "Woo-hoo! Snow forts!"
"Cat, Jack, you two coming?"

“Yeah,” Jack nodded distractedly, glancing at Eva.
“You sure you don’t wanna come? I’ll let you throw snowballs at my head.”

"nah." Eva shook her head and kissed his cheek. "Go have fun, my love."
Cat nodded and stood up, pulling boots over her bare feet. She was wearing loose cotton pants and a tank top, like she had been shen she'd come. She was used enough to the cold that it didn't bother her.

"Don't worry, Jackie." Randy put an arm aroudn Jack's shoulder, putting his other one around Cat's waist. "I'll throw snowballs at your head."

“I guess.” Jack sighed listlessly before scowling at Randy. “No you won’t. Not if you want to live.”

Randy sighed and let go of him. "Nobody loves the Randy...Except Cat." He patted her head. "Good girl."
Rose smiled and opened the door, heading outside into the snow. "You guys coming or not? If we leave him out here long enough, Cain might turn himself into a snowwolf."

Cain was already on his way out the door as he pulled on his gloves, grinning from ear to ear. Winter was most defiantly his favorite season of the year.
“Yeah, you guys better not be talking about me,” he said as he started making snow balls. He was gonna peg Jack first. Then pick the rest of the crew off one by one. He’d give Rosie a fair chance to pick his side before he got her, she’d get hit last if she got hit at all.

Rose laughed and hurried to Cain's side, knowing what good aim he had and he was going to ambush. She glanced around and grabbed his arm, tugging him behind a snowbank where's they'd be completly hidden.
"So, general Jiovanni, what's the plan?"

Jack stopped himself halfway out of the door, turning on his heel and cutting through the kitchen to the back door. Cain was not gonna peg him first, no sir. He grinned at Eva as he passed and cut around the house, packing the snow in a tight ball before peaking around the corner.
“Hey, Cain!” He called, sending the snowball flying straight at Cain’s head.

Cain smiled. Smart girl. “Well, try not to get hit; we need to do the hittin’. I s’pose Randy’s a traitor and went to Jack’s side…Cat’s probably with them,” he popped up from their hiding place just in time to hear his name, followed by a very fast ball of cold wet snow. He slumped back down. “Well, that hurt,” He laughed, before adding back to his speech from a few moments before. “Looks like it’s just me and you, babe.” Before Rose could comment, Cain was standing up and hurling a snowball Jack’s way. “Lupus! That’s payback!”

Jack ducked behind the corner a second too late, the snowball pegging him in the shoulder. At least he could barely feel it through his coat.
“Alright, dude, truce until we can build our forts!”

Eva, for her part, managed to keep her smile up until Jack was out the door. Then it was gone, blanked out like it never existed, and she was left wandering around the kitchen. She could cook, but she wasn't all too good at that.... She had all the presents for the gang wrapped already, so there was really not too much to do while the others were outside...
Cat giggled softly from where she and Randy had hidden out behind a stand of trees. "It's like..... well, like a bunch of kids at Christmas." she giggled again, smiling up at him

Rose laughed, shaking her head. "I'm all for that, boys! Truce until we build forts!"
Randy grinned and hugged her tightly. "Well...they are a bunch of kids at Christmas, Cat." He kissed her cheek. "Guess we'll blend right in."

Randy grinned. "You know it, Kit Kat!" He laughed. "So, you wanna side with me and Jack or make your own army of one, love?"

"Aw, I was thinking you and me, up against the world on our own...." She smiled
"Besides, I wouldn't want to kick everyone's asses just by myself."
