Cassandra shivered violently as she stood outside of Xander’s back door, blood covering every inch of her nude form. She pounded her fist against the door before wrapping her arms back around herself more out of modesty than to fight the cold. The shaking increased, the cold and fear and exhaustion making short work of her small framed body, and she had to lean against the door to even keep upright at all. She squeezed her eyes closed, praying that Xander didn’t have company. Jack was out of town for the next three weeks and Cars would be having her ritual musical marathon and she was pretty sure everyone else would be at Sean’s party. Cass’ cheek pressed against the smooth wood of the door and she whimpered pathetically, not having the energy to knock again.

Xander opened the door, eyes almost popping out of his head when he saw her. He had just started college a week ago, and had skipped a party to stay at home studying, lounging around his apartment in slippers and sleeping pants, shirtless. The doorbell had surprised him, he didn't want people seeing him dressed like this. Still, something had told him to set the book down and shuffle to the door.
"C-Cassandra?" he hadn't seen her in awhile, and they hadn't gotten alog well the last time, something that had left him with a black eye from Jack.

Cass staggered to keep her balance when the door was pulled away from her, biting her lip as she looked up at Xander and quickly looked down.
“I’m really sorry but…” Her voice broke and she had to fight to get the next words out between sobs. “I don’t know where else to go.”

Xander wrapped his arms clumsily around her, not really knowing what else to do. "Just... come inside..."

Cass nodded slightly, leaning heavily against him and letting him lead her inside.
“I need your help.” Cass whimpered. “I can’t move him by myself.”

"Him...?" Xander bit his lip, wondering if she'd gone crazy or was on a bad trip.

“Don’t look at me like that.” Cass pleaded, afraid he wouldn’t believe her, or worse, he would but not about it being an accident.
“The park’s supposed to be deserted, I mean, that’s why there’s even any deer there .” She was referring to George Bush park, a patch of protected forest surrounded by duck ponds and soccer fields. “I was just protecting my kill but then he ran and,” Cass whimpered. “Prey instincts kicked in and I took him down.”
“I didn’t…” She shifted her weight slightly so that if he pulled away suddenly in disgust, she wouldn’t fall over. “I didn’t do it on purpose.”

"What do you want me to do?" Xander sighed

“Help me get rid of the body.” Cass blinked, surprised he was so calm about it.

Xander nodded slightly. "We'd better get you dressed and washed off first...."

“Xander…” Cass wanted to ask how the hell he was being so damn calm, instead she pursed her lips. “Thanks.”

"Come on..." Xander sighed, pulling her gently towards inside.

Cass nodded, biting her lip as she allowed him to lead her, all of her usual bravado gone.

Xander closed the door behind himself, leading ehr down the hall. "Can you manage a shower while I grab some clothes?"

Cass’ chin jerked up and down in assent as she reluctantly disentangled herself, casting a glance back at Xander before she entered the bathroom. It didn’t take long for the water to heat up and soon tendrils of pink water swirled down the drain as she cleaned off the layers of dirt and blood. The warm water helped to soothe her raw nerves and within ten minutes she was out of the shower and drying off in front of a mirror clouded with steam. She folded the towel carefully and set it on the sink, emerging from the bathroom and looking for Xander.

Xander had left a set of his clothes and a belt folded outside the bathroom

Cass slid easily into the shirt and pants, pulling the belt tightly around her waist and rolling up the legs so that they didn’t cover her entire foot.
“Xa-“ Her first attempt came out as a squeak so she cleared her throat and tried again. “Xander?”

"Yeah?" Xander was in his room, sitting perfectly still on his bed

Cass moved towards the sound of his voice, leaning lightly against the doorframe. “What’re you thinking about?”

"A wolf attack.." Xander said softly. "How could they trace it?"
