Jack shoved his way through the crowded street. School had finally let out yesterday and this was supposed to be the biggest race of the year. And after all the work they’d put into it, he hoped they’d be able to turn a profit this time. He was looking for Xander or Cassie or anyone really. He sighed, glancing around. The air was thick with cigarette smoke and exhaust fumes, and the girl he’d just passed had enough perfume on her that he was sure they’d all go up in flames if someone came too close to her with a lit match. But tonight was about more than the race or the end of school. Tonight he was going to introduce the only girl he’d ever wanted for more than one night to his best friend. Tonight he was going to introduce Cass to Xander. That is, if he ever found either one of them…

"Hey Jackie." Xander grinned lazily, coming up behind his friend and resting his elbow on his shoulder. "Man, you really don't stnad out in a crowd... I had to push through damn near everyone here to find you."

“Hey,” Jack shrugged off Xander’s elbow, turning around to face him. “At least there’s a good turn out.” He thought for a moment, lips curling in a crooked grin. “Next time we’ll wear like florescent orange or something else bright and obnoxious, a’right?”

“Sandy, c’mon! We’re gonna miss it!” Carrie grinned as she tugged her girlfriend Sandy along behind her. Both of them had been looking forward to this, not to mention the last day of school, all year. It also marked their one-month anniversary.
“I’m coming, I’m coming!” Sandy laughed, tussling Carrie’s curly dark hair playfully. Her dark blue eyes scanned the crowd. She recognized a lot of kids from school and grinned when she saw Jack Lupus and Xander Dean. “C’mon, Scary Carrie. I wanna introduce you to some people.”
Carrie blinked and tugged at the frayed hem of her stressed denim skirt. “Um, alright, Sandy Candy…” He allowed herself to be nudged towards the two boys.
“Hey, Jacks. Xander,” Sandy pulled Carrie in to her side and wrapping an arm around her waist. “This is Carrie.”

“Hey,” Jack looked over the new girl briefly. “Listen, Sandy, you seen Cassandra around? I told her we'd all watch the race together.”

Sandy shook her head. "Can't say I have. She's probably bumming a smoke behind a building somewhere."

“Everyone’s smoking,” Jack waved vaguely. “She wouldn’t go behind a building anyways. She isn’t stupid.” He sighed and glanced at Xander. “She’s… she’s the one I’ve been wanting you to meet…”

Carrie looked from Jack to Xander, offering each one a meek smile. "Hiya. I think I'll sneak off now, seein' as I think I might be nyeruptin' somethin'..." She slunk off.

“Hell yeah! And if we blow it completely up, no one will care!” Patrick was mauling his way through the crowd, talking to another boy about his own age about blowing up an old house or something.
The second he saw Xander and Jack, he was smiling like the Cheshire Cat. “Hey! We got a damn good turn out or what?” He seemed happy to be out and about. “Where the hell’s Cass, I gotta congratulate her on damn fine idea. The woman’s pure genius.”

“Ah, you know her,” Jack sighed, unable to suppress a small grin. “She’ll probably show up the second we stop looking for her.”
“And then complain about you not looking hard enough?” Cass finished for him, weaving her way through the crowd towards the group. She grinned, kissing Jack on the cheek before flashing a smile at everyone else. Jack’s jaw dropped about three inches.
“Your dad let you out of the house like that?” He asked disbelievingly. Cass smirked, glancing down at her mini skirt and what looked like a bikini top.
“Daddy wasn’t home,” She grinned smugly, glancing at Patrick. “Now what were you saying about me? Genius?”

“Now, damn it, Cass, stop fishin’ for a compliment. I was going to say this was a damn good idea.” Patrick was smiling before his eyes got a little lost as he watched a girl pass by. “Yeah, you’re definitely a genius.”

“Aw, Patrick,” Cass grinned. “You’re going soft.” She licked her lips, glancing around. “I think the whole school showed up. Hopefully they’ll place some bets.”

"Nah, not goin' soft, just in a damn good mood." He pointed at a few groups of people. "Who the hell comes to a race and doesn't bet on it?"

“Noobs,” Cass wrinkled her nose and laughed. “Which is pretty much all of them. It’ll pick up though,” Her eyes lit up. “And then all we’ll have to worry about is the cops finding out where we’re holding the races.”

"And if we get busted all to hell and back, then what?" Patrick asked, grinning. "Run like hell? 'Cause you know, I can run pretty damn good."

“Stick to the center of the crowd and you should be a’ight, they can't catch everyone.” Cass laughed. “My car’s parked around back, out of sight, so you know where to go if the pigs show.”

"Hey, Cassie." Sandy grinned at the other girl. "How's life treatin' ya?" She looked around. "Damnit, where'd that girl of mine go off to? Why in the hell does she have to be so shy?"

"Yeah, well getting busted isn't the worse thing that could happen to us. We're minors we can get out of it easy." Patrick replied, before smiling at Sandy.
"Eh, Sand wouldn't you be shy if you have to hang around us losers? Oh excuse me, you losers."

“Things are lookin’ up.” Cass grinned, looking around as well. “Aw, Sandy ain’t single no more. What’s she look like? She’s ‘wolf, right?”
“You’re the only loser here, Patty.”

"Thanks, Cass, I try," Patrick replied, smiling like an idiot. "Just for you."
