o.o Lil' chap from the novel I wrote...^^ S'got vampires in it. Next one will have werewolves. Ah loves Nyx...I really do...
_______
They were at least five minutes late by the time they got to Lancaster High School. It was a large, as far as high schools go, two-story brick building with glass doors and about twelve windows on each floor (Demy had gotten bored once during her sophomore year and had counted the number of windows she could see from the edge of her second floor Math class.)
After dismounting their make shift horse (i.e. Ripper), Demy and Nyx wandered inside the school they'd spent the last three years learning how to cut classes without being caught and how to charm teachers into giving them hall passes so the three of them could hang out in the second floor bathrooms.
Ripper followed behind his best friend and girlfriend closely as the threesome wandered toward the school's auditorium that took up at least one-third of the overall lower level. The stood in the back with the teachers since there were no available seats to be seen.
"...And I can promise you all this year will be great for the students, as well as the teachers." The school's veteran principal, a beefy forty-something man with a loud, booming voice named Gregory Johansen, finished the same speech he recited every year on the first day of school, which Demy, Nyx and Ripper always missed. The entire student body stood up to leave when Mr. Johansen spoke again. "Hold on, everybody. I've got one more announcement." There was a collective groan from half the auditorium as the creak of chairs as they were filled again. "We've got a new senior this year and I want all of you to make her feel welcome. Will you please come up here for a second, miss?"
The room went silent as a small, pale figure dressed in a large white sweater and jeans approached the front of the room. She was small for a high school student and kept her head down so her silvery white-blond hair covered her eyes. She stood next to Mr. Johansen silently.
Next to Demy, Nyx stood a little straighter and squinted, trying to get a good look at the new girl.
"Everyone, I would like to introduce Miss Drusilla Moon. She's just moved here from Chicago, so please treat her with the same respect you all show everyone else." Nobody moved, just incase he had something else to say. "You can all go now." The auditorium was empty except for Ripper, Demy, Nyx, and Dru within seconds. The principle had taken off with everyone else.
"Heya, Dru!" The grinning Nyx ran down the aisle and stopped dead in front of Dru. He looked up and smiled at him.
"Hey. Nyx, right?" He grinned and bowed to her.
"At you service, my lady." Dru giggled and blushed.
"I didn't know you were a senior. Me, Nyx and Ripper thought you were a freshman or something." Said Demy, coming up next to Nyx with Ripper. Dru smiled and laughed.
"Yeah, everybody thinks that when they first meet me because I look so young. But I'm actually eighteen." Nyx grinned again.
"Interesting. Very interesting...Hey, Demy, what do you have first period?" Demy dug through her pocket and pulled out the pink schedule that'd been mailed to her last week.
"English with someone named Mrs. Bates. Huh. Must be new. Probably some spindly old bat that forgets what's she talking about in mid sentence." Demy snickered.
Dru looked down at the thin sheet of pink paper in her hand. "I have English, too." She looked up at the trio. Nyx and Ripper rummaged through their pockets for their schedules and came back with the same results.
The small blond smiled. "Perfect! We cal all hang out in the back row. That is, if you guys want to sit with me..." Nyx put his right arm around her and gave her a goofy grin.
"And why wouldn't we?" The two turned and walked off, Nyx still with his arm around the shorter girl. Demy covered her mouth to muffle a snorted laugh.
"What's so funny?" Ripper wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed the side of her neck. She chuckled.
"I was just thinking what a weird couple they’d make. I mean, Nyx is at least five inches taller than her. He's got spiked hair, he's got at least three tattoos, that we know of, he wears vests with no shirt, leather pants, combat boots, and collars and bracelets with spikes! He's like a straight gay guy with no fashion sense!" Ripper kissed her collarbone. Demy went silent and purred quietly.
"Well, maybe Dru can help him get a little more organized. Who knows? She may even help us a little." He nuzzled his girlfriend's cheek lovingly. "C'mon we'd better get to class." The couple wandered out of the auditorium, ready to start their last year of high school, not knowing that for some of them, it really would be their last year ever...
