Demons. Seemed like the whole damn world was full of them.
Verica and Cliff has split up, working different cases. she had gone after some minor omens near Minneapolis, preferring big city work. Should have been no problem.
She'd got her target. Even managed the exorcism. Found the building surrounded. She hardly remembered fighting her way out. A lot of people had died. She couldn't waste time feeling guilty about it.
she stole a car, something she never thought she'd do. Hers was destroyed, naturally. She didn't waste the time looking over her injuries. Quite frankly, she didn't want to know.
car had lasted longer than she thought, running on stolen gas and desperation. made the last 20 miles on foot, a trip through the forest tearing at old injuries and making new ones. Trying to keep any thoughts of the disaster from her head as she went, singleminded to her destination.
The sun was going down when she sighted the old lake house. She had never thought that Maybe Willie had moved in the years since she'd lived here, or maybe he was out on a hunt. He had to be there.
She took a spare moment, looking at the sun sinking into the lake. The water looked great, but was getting farther and farther away as she fell into exhaustion. So was the house. Luckily the rainy season had hit and the trail up to the house was covered in a puddle. She skinned her knees up to kneel down, drinking muddy water before laying down, the cold water soothing scrapes and cuts. she passed out, curled up in a puddle as the sun finally fell below the horizon
