Work trip, a little buzzed, two weeks gone. Rushing home, can't get you on the phone, not watching the speed limits.
Tried to call again, lost my phone to the wing. Streets are slick and I'm wondering if it rained. Wondering if you're home and if you're okay.
Faster, faster, tires screech, getting closer to you, I can almost reach. Didn't even see that Chevy....

Frank gets the call first, about the accident. Cass doesn’t take the news well, not that he expected her to, but she hangs up and races to the hospital before he even gets the sentence out.
Cass speeds to the hospital, barely escaping an accident of her own, before running to the front desk to accost a nurse. “Where is he? Xander Dean, what room?”

"That poor boy?" The nurse frowned thoughtfully. "Still in surgery, I think."

Cass made a choked noise, not quite looking at the nurse. “Where’s surgery?”

"At the end of the hall." The nurse frowned. "Surgery is closed, why don't you sit down and I'll call you when he's done?"

“What’s wrong with him?” Cass whimpered.

The nurse shot Cassie a look of pure pity. "His skull's bashed in....."

“But he’s,” Cass let out a shaky breath. “He’s going to be okay, right?”

The nurse shrugged slightly. "I've seen people in better shape die on the table. He's still in surgery, it means he's still alive."

Cass growled, sulking off the curl up in an uncomfortable looking chair in the waiting room.

It was a half hour later when the nurse finally acknowledged her again. "Miss, he's in room 244."

“Thank you.” Cass shot up, stumbling over her own feet as she rushed to his room, whimpering a little as she hesitated in the doorway. “…Xander…?”

"Cassie." Xander raised one hand in a small wave. He was scratched up and had bandages covering his head, and a splint on one wrist

“Babe…” Cass whimpered, her eyes red and puffy from crying as she took a tiny step into the room. “You scared me…”

"I'm sorry...." Xander murmured, holding his arms out for her

Cass let out a shaky breath, wiping roughly at her eyes before stepping forward to hug him gently. “Are you okay?”

"As long as I don't get infected." Xander said carefully

“Bet they have you on some righteous drugs.” Cass tried to grin, standing awkwardly at the side of his bed.

"I'm so drugged up on morphine I can barely think." Xander laughed softly

Cass took his hand in both of hers, biting her lip and not quite looking him in the eyes. “I’m glad you’re okay, Xander.”
