((ooc: I stole this idea from a Buffy fic >.>)
Frank let himself into the apartment using the key Cass kept stashed under the doormat, leaning against the doorway into the room she shared with Xander. He took note that Cass wasn’t in bed, where Xander was still sound asleep, but she had to be near by because her car was still parked outside.
“Hey, Xander, there’s a kid on your couch.” Frank frowned at the little girl he had walked by seconds ago without even noticing. She smelt familiar, strangely so, but he credited that to the ridiculously large shirt she was wearing, one he recognized as Xander’s. “Dude, wake up.”
Frank scooped up a pillow off the ground and slapped it hard against the side of Xander’s head. “Since when do you baby sit and who’s the puppy?”

"Nnng, what're you doin....?" Xander batted blindly at the pillow that had assaulted him, refusing to even open his eyes

“Who the hell’s kid is that?” Frank took another swing at Xander, rather enjoying himself. “You’ve got a kid sleeping on your couch if you haven’t noticed. And Cassie’s gone. Probably dead on the side of the road. But, you know, you sleeping is way more important.”
Cass woke up with a start on a strange couch, in a strange apartment, with two strange men in the next room. She didn’t know where she was or how she’d gotten there, but her daddy was going to be mad when he found out. She wasn’t supposed to go anywhere alone. She was going to be in trouble, big trouble. So, Cass did what she always did to get out of trouble. She started crying.
“Great.” Frank grumbled. “Shouldn’t you be like taking care of her or something?” He hit Xander again while he could still get away with it and headed towards Carrie’s room, opening the door without knocking.
“Listen, crazy, make the kid shut up. She’s givin’ me a headache.”

Carrie grunted and sat up from her warm cocoon of blankets groggily. "Frank, what the hell're you talking about?" She grimaced at the massive hangover that was pounding at her skull. "You know there're no kids here..."

“Then explain the crying midget on the couch.” Frank growled, just as said midget started to cry even louder.

Carrie groaned and covered her ears. "URGH!" The werewolf begrudgingly crawled out of her warm bed, dressed in an old Sex Pistols T-shirt and shorts. "Who the hell is she?"

“How the f**k am I supposed to know?” Frank grinned. “I just got here.”

Carrie rolled her eyes and shoved past Frank into the living room. She looked from the half-conscious Xander to the wailing little girl on the couch. <Just f**king great. I don't know the first thing about kids.> She hesitantly edged over to the girl, trying to look non-threatening. The most she really knew about kids this age was their tendency to bite. At least, she'd been a bitter.
"There, there...it's alright. Please stop crying." Carrie rubbed her forehead, wishing for some Tylenol or maybe a sock to stuff in the kid's mouth.

Cass stopped crying almost instantly, blinking at yet another person she’d never seen before. The man with the bleached hair, the one that scared her, was standing to the side with a snide grin on his face.

Carrie sighed, grateful for the silence. "Thank you." She shot Frank a glare over her shoulder. "If that guy scared you, don't worry. His bark is much worse than his bite."

“Where’s my daddy?” Cass sniffled, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.

Carrie shook her head. "I don't know...what's your name, honey?"

Cass glanced back at the lady, her big brown eyes shining with fresh tears. She was four or five years old with long, brown hair and a t-shirt that was so big the neck hole was slipping over her shoulders. “My name’s Cassandra Tate.”
“Cassie?!” Frank exploded, pushing Carrie out of the way to get a better look at her.
Cass screamed, more of a high pitched squeal than anything, and ran past the two of them into Xander’s room, diving into the bed to pull the covers over her head.

Carrie growled as she landed hard on her side on the floor. "Nice going, Frank. Scare the hit outta her why doncha?!" She got up, rubbing her sore hip and made her way to Xander's room, sitting on the edge of the bed. "Hey, c'mon out, sugar. I promise Frank won't hurt you." Somehow, probably the leftover alcohol in her system mixed with the fact she'd just woken up, Carrie didn't seem shocked when Cass gave her name. It hadn't quite sunken in yet.

Frank stared blankly after the child, not even hearing Carrie.
“I don’t like him.” Cass whimpered as she untangled herself from the blankets and threw her arms around Carrie’s neck, climbing in her lap. She rested her head on Carrie’s shoulder, sticking her thumb in her mouth. “What’s your name?”

"To tell you the truth, I don't like him much either." Carrie gave a little smile, wrapping her arms around little Cass. "I'm Carrie."

“Carry ain’t nobody’s name. Did your mommy name you that?” She asked as she slid down to the floor, peeking cautiously around the big girl at the other guy who hadn’t even moved when she’d jumped on the bed.

Xander finally groaned into his pillow, trying to raise himself into a sitting position before falling back onto the bed. He tried again, reminding himself that he really SHOULD be interested in whatever's going on, and finally sat up, looking around blearily and realizing that he'd lost his sleeping shirt for the third night in a row and only had his sily pants left. The dangers of sleeping with Cass, he supposed.

Carrie chuckled, already liking this little girl. "Carrie's only my nickname. My real name's Caroline." She glanced back into the other room. "Like I said, just ignore Frank. He's a jerk."

"Of course he is..." Xander grumbled, waiting for his eyes to adjust. "Carrie, what the hell're you doing in my bed?"
