Just a night. That was is, just a night. Justanightjustanightjusta--
Shit.
Why had she come home for this?
She stepped out of her car- a rather sporty little Saturn if she did say so herself- alost cursing herself for this. In all her self- detriment, though, she had been planning for this for the past few months, from her wardrobe to conversation peices.
<I guess I never change....> she thought sadly, smiling bitterly to herself.
That could be true in most ways. She had gotten a little taller, had filled out a little more. Her hair was a little darker and a little longer, and she wore a little more make up. A little here, a little there, is it ever enough? Not when she looked in the mirror, seeing the same person she'd been when she'd left cold creek, ten years ago. And she couldn't stand that. What she couldn't see in the mirror was the change in her stride, the confidant smile whenever anyone looked at her, how straight and tall she held her shoulders. Eva had changed a lot since she left.
Ten years ago had been graduation. It seemed like a lifetime, when she'd thought back, but she could still remember every word she'd said. And all those she hadn't.
To cain, she'd said goodbye, goodluck. Nothing else. It's not the way things worked with Cain.
Tala she hadn't seen at all.
Rose she gave an email address. She'd smiled and said things would be okay. Had they been? Eva had no idea, she'd never gotten a message.
Jack..... Oh God, Jack. She'd been horrible, selfish, anything else she could call herself. She'd told him that she had moved on, that her life was starting. Yeah f**k**g right, life. She'd actually run off to go to college, one in Washington, where she'd studied Language. Since then, she'd gotten a job translating foreign books, which paid pretty well as long as she got done on time, plus she got to work wherever the hell she wanted. Ah, life.
This wasn't like, no way, no how. This was a nightmare; she suddenly saw herself going in, the same person she'd been then, her life just the way it was before she'd met Rose and Cain and Jack. Shitty.
But no, she was her own person now, and she had made it. She was sucessful, and she..... well, she had had boyfriends, but none of them were Jack. You never realize what you have until you stomp all over it, she supposed as she strode inside, heading towards the on-site bar and..
Oh shit.
Jack.

Rose smiled slightly to hersefl as she climbed out of her husband's treasured Impala in front of their old Alma mater. In eleven years, it had barely changed. A minor nic or two in the paint job, new hubcaps, but that was about it.
Unlike herself. In looks, she hadn't changed all that much. Her hair was shorter due to a recent haircut, now it only reached the tops of her shoulders. Her eyes were still the same bright blue. Even her figure hadn't changed all that much, she thought a little proudly as she glanced at her reflection in the shining side of the car. She'd made a good choice in picking out the spagetti-strap sky blue gown that almost touched the ground. It even managed to hide the few extra pounds she'd never quite managed to shed after giving birth to her daughter.
Wika. Wicked Luna Jiovanni. Her and Cain's nine-year old daughter. She opened the back door and watched as her only child climbed out dressed in a pair of dark blue jeans and a clean white blouse with a red bow tying back her long blond hair. The poor girl looked more than a little miffed.
"Mo-o-o-o-om." She moaned, lifting her hazel eyes to her mother's face. "Why did you bring me here? I'm almost ten, you and Dad don't need to take me places just because you couldn't find a babysitter."
Rose smiled sympathetically and patted her child's hair. "I know, Wika, but just try and live through this, for me and your dad, okay?" She lowered her voice slightly, "Your DS is in the trunk for when you can't take this anymore." Wika grinned and nodded.
"Fine, I'll try and survive." She hurried inside. "Besides, I get to see what the high school looks like!" Rose laughed and picked up the hem of her dress slightly, hurrying after her while Cain parked the car.
The moment she was inside, she caught the look of a familiar head of brown-blond hair. There were a few subdle differences, but it was definetly her.
"Evie?!"

Eva spun, snapped out of the Jack-induced daze she'd put herself in, finding her old best friend a bare few feet away, wearing shorter hair and a fancy dress. Suddenly all the ideas of conversations fled Eva's head, leaving her struggling for something to say.
"Rose....."

A familar grin spread across Rose's face as she rushed over to her old friend, never being so grateful for flat-heeled shoes. She threw her arms around Eva, laughing. "I thought it was you!" She pulled away, the grin not leaving her face.
"Wow, you look amazing!" She squinted slightly, studying her face. "Are you wearing make-up? Wow."

"Rose, shit, be quiet!" Eva hissed, shooting a nervous glance over in Jack's direction. Had he noticed? She didn't think so, good.
"It's good to see you, Rose." she said softly, leading her friend farther away. "How've things been?"

Rose glanced at Jack, immedietly quieting herself. "Sorry..." She said softly.
As soon as they were away from the bar, Rose grinned again. "Pretty damn good, if I do say so myself." She held out her left hand, showing off her engagement and wedding rings. "Sparkle, sparkle. Didn't you ever get my e-mail about the wedding? I wanted you to be my maid of honor like you wouldn't believe."

"I didn't get ANY emails from you." Eva tossed her hair slightly "Not in ten years." she knew she was being a little snippy, but Rose managed to remind her of all she could have ben, had, and everything she'd left behind. She rubbed her left ring finger, feeling the loss of a ring that never existed

"Well...how's life been treating you?"

"I didn't say you didn't send any emails, I said I didn't get any..." Eva said lowly. Did anyone get that distinction but her?
"I've been doing alright... went through college, got a job. I've got a house and a car and all that stuff. Met up with some Lycan packs around the rockies that I hung out with for awhile. Life's been good."

"Your little girl? She's over by the bar. You've gotta go be mom for awhile, so I'll see ya around." eva nodded and melted into the crowd without another word.
Rose. Married. With a little girl. When she'd seen the little thing run by, she'd known at once; Rosie and Cain. She'd had to learn these things with bosses kids. But that wasn't what bothered her; if Rosie was married, what about Jack?
That thought filling her head, she wandered through the crowd, trying to get back her smile and self-assuredness. She almost had it, too, when she ran smack into somebody. Looking up, she mentally sighed. Shit.
(haha, a good way to bring someone else in. Jack or Cainy, most like XP)

Cain had not been in the building three minutes before he’d seen Wika scramble by, heading for something he knew she probably wasn’t even suppose to touch. Apparently the ‘listen-to-me-I-mean-it’ talk on the way over hadn’t phased her one bit, she was doing exactly what Cain had told her not to do, run off from her mother.
He’d been skimming the crowd for any signs of his wife when he’d bumped into someone. The woman was someone he knew, or had known, very well at one time.
“Eva?” She looked good, not that she hadn’t looked good ten years ago, but she looked more filled out now, older, in a good way. He knew he probably looked a little different too, he’d gotten away from the ripped blue jeans and faded tee-shirt combo, for the reunion anyway. He felt old dressed in dress slacks and dress shirt, but Rose had insisted. And Cain did what Rose asked for the most part, the guest room down the hall wasn’t so great when you were sleeping there alone.
He’d probably gained a little weight too (He’d finally started working out after Rose picked on him about being in his mid-twenty’s and being the man she knew that didn’t work out.) , almost being thirty had that effect on people. Damn, he was only a couple years away.
Cain grinned. “You seen a little blonde girl running around,” he held a hand out, “About this tall? She’s probably doing something to get herself in trouble…” He glanced around one last time; Rose had caught up with Wika. “Never mind.” He turned back to Eva. “Wow, long time no see, how’s life been?” The words had come a lot easier then he’d thought they would, Eva hadn’t even really said anything to him before she’d gone to school. She’d said even less to Jack.

"Hi, Cain...." eva said softly, finger brushing at a few strands of har before she caught herself in her nervous habit and stopped, mentally growing at herself. After all these years, it seemed, Cain was still someone that made her feel like that same little girl she'd been. But that wasn't going to happen. There would be no stuttering, no bitingly sarcastic retort that laft her feeling like a b*tch. Not here, not now, not ever.
"I've been well..." she smiled slightly, looking straight into his eyes and hoping he got the message; she was her own woman now, and he'd better damn well treat her with respect. She'd learned this worked a lot more than one'd think it would. "How's the married life?" she tilted her head slightly at him

“That’s good; I think everyone’s had it pretty good the last few years.” He’d wondered why Eva hadn’t replied to Rose’s e-mail over the years, but looking at her now he realized she either hadn’t gotten it or had been to busy with her new life. He couldn’t really say he blamed her, all his life he’d wanted to leave Cold Creek and here he was ten tears later, stuck in the same place. But he was happy for her, she seemed well grounded.
He smiled. “Oh, you know, no different then high school, only now Rose gets by with telling me to fix stuff. And I actually do it. Plus, I mean, man, kids change you….it’s the hardest work I’ve ever done. How ‘bout you, you get a special someone in the last decade?”

"No, I...." Eva sighed, her hand returning to rub that left ring finger. "I mean, I've dated a couple people..... Hell, I searched out 'wolf packs to find someone like....." she blushed, biting her lip, when she realized how stupid she sounded.
"Sorry. No, I'm still single."

Cain smiled; he knew what she’d meant to say, or rather what she hadn’t meant to say. “Oh, okay, dating’s cool, I mean, gotta start somewhere, right?” He glanced to see if Rose was still somewhere nearby, all he needed was her Wika to get away from her and break something, or spill something. Honestly, the child was too much like him. He hadn’t seen Jack yet, but somehow he knew Eva hadn’t talked to him if she had. “You know, Eva, you can tall to him, Jack I mean. He’s not going to bite your head off, at least I’m pretty sure he won’t.”

"I'm sure he's told you what I said to him when I left." Eva looked back at cain, getting almost angry. "D'you think he deserved that? Cause I sure as hell don't. I HATE thinking about someone treating him badly; whoever does doesn't deserve to be around him anymore." she said feircely.
"and that includes me."

"Wika, Wika, don't-!"
CRASH!
"Uh...It was ready to fall anyway?"
Rose sighed and looked to the bartender, struggling to remember his name since they'd been classmates. "Sorry. I'll try and keep her away from any more glass bottles." Wika had shattered a bottle of vodka. Cheap vodka, luckily.
He nodded. "Don't worry about it, Mrs. Jiovanni." She smiled and hurried her daughter away.
"Wicked-"
"I'm soorry, mom." Wika sighed, looking up at her mother in exsasperation, as if she were the one doing the scorning. "I'll be more careful, alright?"
Rose shook her head slightly. "Go find your dad, okay?" She scooted her daughter off, silently hoping she wouldn't break anything else.

Cain had learned to control his temper much better in the past few years; it never did any good to get mad anyway. People just thought he was a jerk, and ignored him more.
“Eva, that was ten years ago, Jack isn’t one to hold on to something that long. So you said some things you shouldn’t have said, big deal, like I haven’t ever said some pretty harsh things. We age, we get wiser, we learn that we can move on. You should talk to him, whether or not you do is completely up to you.”
