Cass sat on the couch and sighed. She wasn’t allowed to do much these days, no drinking, no smoking, no drugs, no riding on Xander’s bike. Even her movements were restricted since she’d made it into the third trimester. Her baby bump wasn’t so cute anymore, it looked less like the pregnancy stomachs you see on tv and more like someone had stuck an over inflated basketball up her shirt. Her frame was too small to look good with a baby belly, she decided.
Surprisingly enough, it wasn’t the booze or the drugs or even the cigarettes she missed the most. She missed the stupid small things like driving to the park and Changing, and going to the grocery store and the mall. The apartment seemed to get smaller every day and sometimes she just wished the little girl she was carrying, Jack’s little girl, would come a little early, just to get it over with. Most times, though, she didn’t care when she came as long as she came healthy.
Cassie heaved herself off of the couch, leaning back awkwardly to counteract the weight of her belly, and headed for her and Xander’s room. The room they’d shared since Carrie passed. Together they’d turned Cass’ old room into a nursery, all pale pinks and yellows. Carrie’s room hadn’t been touched.
Sometimes the boredom got so bad Cass thought she’d die if she didn’t do something. This was one of those times. She moved quietly over the carpet, brushing the tips over her fingers over the walls as she made her way to the bed. She smiled lazily, pulling the sheets to her chin. She had a clear view of the living room, the ash tray stuffed full of cigarette butts that she hadn’t smoked and empty bottles of alcohol covering every available space on the coffee table that she hadn’t drunk.
She checked the radio clock next to the bed and giggled. Xander was going to flip.

"Cassie?" Rose knocked on the door softly. "You awake?" Without waiting for a response, she walked inside, not bothering to acknowledge the empty beer bottles and cigarette butts. Cass had pulled this trick on her last month. She supposed it was Xander’s turn now.
She walked to the bedroom and leaned against the doorway, holding a tray of chocolate cookies in one arm. “Thought you’d like a snack. I ate a few of them on the drive over though, sorry.” She patted her swollen stomach. “Apparently, the baby likes chocolate.” She was even bigger than Cass, being due in about a week.

Xander pulled into the driveway, home a little early from work. Lately he'd started a landscaping business, used mostly by the rich families outside of Cold Creek. He was gone a bit more than he'd like to be; he'd rather not be gone at all; but at least he brought money home.
Collecting his coat and papers from the passenger seat, he also picked up the flowers he'd bought for Cassie. He'd been a little mad when he left for work, though he wasn't sure if she'd noticed. If she had, these were so she knew he wasn't mad at her; if not, they were just a simple surprise.
"Cass, I'm ho--" He came in the door and froze, blinking. "Cossie? Rosie? Care to.... explain this to me?" he said in as calm a voice as he could manage.

“Hey, Rosie.” Cass eyed the cookies and motioned for Rose to sit on the bed so she could watch Xander. She grinned, watching Xander through the door.
“Those for me?” She smiled, glancing at the flowers.

"Cassie, you little b*tch...." Xander chuckled and grinned at her. She hadn't done anyhting that could hurt the baby. She wouldn't.
"They were for you." he hald up the bouquet of gardinia and pink lillies. "But maybe I'll give them to Rose now. She doesn't try to trick me."

“Guilty.” Cass smirked back at him. “Rose isn’t confined to her damn house. Not like it’d matter if she was, as big as the place is.” She grumbled and slid to her feet, walking towards Xander.
“They smell nice.”

"Yes, well, you know how much people around like you." Xander sighed. "I just.... don't want anything to happen, is all."

Rose chuckled and set the plate of cookies down on the bed. "So, how is everything with you two?"

Xander sghed and sat down on the edge of the bed, raking a hand back through his hair tiredly "Fine, fine..... how's you and Cain?"

Cass reached for a cookie and sat next to Xander, lightly rubbing his shoulder.
“Long day, honey?”

"Good as can be expected." Rose rolled her eyes. "He's so paranoid lately. I actually had to sneak out of the house to get these to ya."

Rose grinned and giggled. "The bad thing is, that might just be true." She glanced at the wall behind her that hid the nursery. "Thought of a name yet?"

Xander shrugged, not liking the change in topics. Hell, he wasn't even sure if Cass or Jack had told the others that the baby wasn't his. "Cass might have, but I havn't really thought about it...."

“I’ve been meaning to talk to Jack about it,” Cass shrugged noncommittally. “But you know how he is.” The truth was, Cass hadn’t spoken to Jack in weeks. She deleted the messages he left on the apartment answering machine and hadn’t even checked her cell phone in ages. It was like she was the consolation prize, with Eva gone and her carrying his kid; and that was worse than him not wanting her at all. And Xander, well, she loved Xander, whether she wanted to admit it out loud or not. She’d been meaning to tell him, had been trying to; but it was one of those things that’s just hard to bring up.

Xander nodded understandingly and flopped onto the bed, draping an arm around Cassie.
