“OH…My…GOD!” The blonde currently bent over the jewelry case had a look of pure evil on her face. “I am so totally not paying for something that isn’t worth this kind of money.” The jeweler was trying her hardest to comply with the younger girl’s wishes. She’d even thrown in a free pair of ear rings.
“I’m sorry, Miss, the gold is just softer when you get a carrot as high as that,” she said, smiling sweetly, though all she really wanted to do was throw the girl out of her shop. “It should be fine if you don’t wear it all the time. The only thing you really have to worry about it the latch on the chain, they break easily when you remove them often.”
“God, I hate gold…” Jo muttered under her breath. “Well, I see there is nothing I want here…” She turned around starting for the door when the woman called her back. “Wait!” The jeweler didn’t want to lose a sale that cost that much. “I’ll even throw in the tennis bracelet. It’s a hundred dollar value.”
Jo turned back around with a bright smile. “I’ll take it.”
Ten minutes later she was walking out of the store, tiny little black bag hanging off her wrist. Now, she needed to eat something. Maybe later she's call that little geeky boy she'd conned yesterday and con him into doing her Physics homework.

Eva was crushed. totally, completely crushed. Her Great-grandmother's baby necklace had broken. Just out of nowhere, of course. She'd been wearing it when the clasp had broken off, spilling tiny, gold beads everywhere. And she'd gotten them all, every last one, before heading straight for the jewelry store, necklace pillowed in her hands.
When she ran straight into trouble.

Jo huffed, looking at Eva as though she’d just run into a brick wall that had ‘geek’ written all over it and not a girl as tiny and as pretty as she was.
“I think someone needs to watch just where they’re goin’,” she sneered in an overly sweet sarcastic tone, bending down to pick up her little jewelry bag and slip it back around her wrist. “As if you didn’t see me, what you need glasses or somethin’? That it?”

"I'm sorry..." eva squeaked, trying to go around Jo as she made sure she hadn't dropped any beads in the encounter. "Sorry, I-i'm.... a little busy."

"Evie, did you drop any?" Rose rushed up to her friend, looking worried. She rested her hands on Eva's shoulders and shot Jo a cold look. "You could try being a little nicer." She snapped at the girl, her nerves already frayed as it was. She'd been late for work, Kibbles had a cold and on top of that, she'd watched Eva's necklace just snap.

"I don't think so..." Eva said, looking releived. "Could you get the door for me, Rosie? I gotta get this fixed..."

Rose's expression softened. "Of course, Evie." She opened the door and ushered her friend inside. "Want me to come with?"

"I'm fine." Eva smiled brilliantly, heading inside. "But if you want to look around, I wouldn't mind."

Rose nodded then shot Jo another seering look and a low snarl before starting to walk off.

“Well, most people still where in the hell they’re stepping when they’re busy!” Jo snapped back at Eva, before glaring at Rose.
“And you could try being a little prettier, but that hasn’t happened yet, has it?” She asked rolling her eyes at Rose.

Eva, already having set her necklace dow inside for the shopkeeper to look at, returned to Rose's side, looking pissed. "Yes, and that really explains why the cutest guy in school hangs out with her all the time."

Jo didn’t look impressed by Eva’s comment. “Yeah, well, ever thought he feels sorry for her, or maybe he’s just really bored.” She replied, smiling sarcastically at the two other girls.

Eva laughed easily, shaking her head. "You're the only one people feel sorryfor, Jo-Jo."

Rose gave Jo a look that could've frozen hell over, but stayed silent. She knew if she spoke she'd scream something she'd regret later.

"Yeah, right,"she replied, shaking the bag on her wrist lightly, "whatever."
Jo looked at Rose, smiling easily. "What, no smartass come back, there little Miss 'I-hang-out-with-Cain-so-that-makes-me-pretty'?"

A smile twitched to Rose's lips and she said in the sugary sweet tone that would easily let on she'd snapped. "Well, at least I'm a natural blond."

Jo looked like someone had just called her the biggest slut in town. She was giving Rose a look that could freeze Hell right over. "You b*tch."

Eva giggled, covering her mouth. She really wished she'd thought of that.

Rose smiled her sweetest and tilted her head. "You know, I actually take that as a compliment. So thank you." She tossed her soft blond hair and looked at Eva. "C'mon, Evie. Let's go get a big pretzel while you get your chain fixed."

"Hey, don't you walk away from like that," Jo snapped, all the false sweetness from ealier gone from her voice. "This isn't finished, you know."
